WHSL Citing the Medical Literature: Citing Print Books

How to cite print and electronic books and journals using Vancouver or Harvard styles for use in the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand (GEMP 1 BMCS, MTP1, MTP2)

Components of a Print Book Citation

All print book citations generally include:

  • Author/s name/s, in reverse order, ie. surname, then first name/s followed by initials
  • Publication date
  • Title of book
  • City in which the book was published (place of publication)
  • Publisher

Using the e-Wits Catalogue to Cite a Book

Note: You can not cite directly from the e-Wits catalogue record. Catalogue records look different to the Vancouver or Harvard citation styles.
