About Us

Research Commons

The Research Commons provides quality services, expert help and seamless access to research information. It incorporates library services and computer technology and assistance, allowing Masters & PhD students; academic staff and researchers to pursue the entire research process in a supportive environment.

Services

In-depth support services available to researchers include:

  • One-on-one consultations with knowledgeable and highly skilled research librarians.
  • Print and Web based information finding.
  • Citation searching.
  • Education and training in library research & application of related technologies to enhance independent information finding, utilization and lifelong learning.
  • Bibliographic management software support to ease the management and compilation of references.
  • Seminar programs to promote cross-fertilization of ideas.
  • Interlibrary loans to access materials available at other higher education institutions and libraries.
  • Borrowing of laptops for use within the RC.
  • Photocopying, scanning and printing.
  • Advice on research publications, including institutional repositories, and dissemination of research results.
  • Research exhibitions

Facilities

Researchers have access to:

  • State of the art technology including wireless network, access to software such as Zotero and Microsoft Office applications and hardware facilities such as laptops, laser printing, digital projector & screen, scanner, and photocopier.
  • An inspiring workspace for contemplation, research, preparing & rehearsing presentations & discussions.
  • Seminar room bookable 24 hours in advance.
  • Relaxed seating.

Note: users are free to bring their own laptops, headphones, digital cameras & scanners and are responsible for the safe keeping of their equipment. The user who checks out library equipment is solely responsible for its safe return in good condition and will be held financially liable for theft, loss or damage. Equipment must be checked in by the RC library staff member. Library staff will verify that the equipment was returned in good condition and that no accessories are missing.

Location

The Research Commons is located on the Ground Floor, William Cullen Library, East Campus.

Business hours

Monday to Friday: 08:30 - 16:30 during term time.

(The RC closes half an hour before closing time in order to check and store equipment. It is not open on weekends and holidays)
