National Heritage and Cultural Tourism Strategy 12 April 2013
Informed by the White Paper on the Development and Promotion of Tourism in South Africa (1996) and the National Tourism Sector Strategy (2010), the National Strategy on Heritage and Cultural Tourism serves to guide and provide strategic direction to the development and promotion of heritage and cultural tourism in South Africa. The strategy provides a framework for the coordination and integration of heritage and culture into the mainstream of tourism.
Domestic Tourism Growth Strategy 2012- 2020
The National Domestic Tourism Growth Strategy represents the views of, and commitment by, all stakeholders to the consolidation of efforts aimed at stimulating and accelerating growth in domestic tourism. This strategy was compiled with due consideration to the global and domestic contexts as well as in keeping with the priorities
of the NTSS. Through the strategy, we expect to build a culture that will result in increased awareness of tourism and its value for the country as well as an increase in the levels of community participation in the tourism sector.

The implementation plan of the strategy seeks to direct a consolidated and integrated approach to addressing the challenges of geographic spread and seasonality, which offer opportunities for enhanced levels of domestic tourism. It also focuses on broadening economic participation, community beneficiation and also deals with creating a better society where all are able to enjoy what the country offers in terms of touri
National Rural Tourism Strategy 11 April 2012
The National Department of Tourism (NDT) has developed a National Rural Tourism Strategy, a strategy meant to ensure a developmental approach upon packaging rural tourism products and opportunities in South Africa. This approach is also meant to prioritise spatial nodes which have a growth potential in order to stimulate growth of the tourism industry in South Africa.
National Tourism Service Excellence 27 March 2012

In response to the issue of inconsistent service levels in the tourism value chain, the government in 2008 came up with the draft Service Excellence Strategy. The National Service Excellence Strategy was a product of a very wide consultative process among stakeholders and involved an environmental scan of the tourism sector. The consultative process and environmental scan revealed that South Africa has a myriad of initiatives to boost service excellence but what was lacking was an integrated approach. The National Service Excellence Strategy was then developed to build on and integrate such initiatives to enhance service excellence throughout the sector. The vision of the National Tourism Service Excellence strategy is to build a service excellence culture in the tourism sector and value chain.
