Welcome

Welcome to this Libguide about WIREDSPACE for Wits researchers and other staff who publish scholarly works. WIReDSpace is the Institutional Repository and Research Archive of Wits University which showcases Wits research on the global stage via an Open Access Platform, DSpace.  Depositing your works in WIReDSPACE is 'self-archiving' or the 'Open Access Green Route'.

Institutional Repositories Explained (Columbia University)

WIREDSPACE = Wits Research Archive

On 9 November 2012, Wits signed the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities.  Wits' scholarly authors are therefore encouraged to deposit copies of their scholarly works done at Wits into WIReDSpace.

As part of their funding conditions, some international funders now insist that a copy of the final papers are placed in an Open Access respository.  The National Research Foundation (NRF) now requires Grantees to place copies of their publications in an institutional repository, such as WIREDSPACE,  See: http://www.nrf.ac.za/document/nrf-open-access-statement-2015

For future publications, please attach a signed Wits Authors' Addendum to your publishers' agreements, so that you can retain some rights for teaching purposes and for placing copies of your publications on WIREDSPACE.  See Tips on how to negotiate an Addendum with your publishers.

Please peruse this LibGuide for information about WIReDSpace and its benefits. Thereafter, please contact your Faculty Librarian to discuss setting up a Community on WIReDSpace and/or for training on WIReDSpace so that you can load your publications as soon as possible.
