Answer: No. You don't have access to the Wits libraries without a current student/staff card. Your card is a proof of identity in all library transactions. During this period of the pandemic (COVID 19) note that you can send queries by logging onto Ask A Librarian Tab from the Library Home Page, incase you are struggling to access e books, e journals and if you want to know the opening hours etc.

Answer : To create a Library Pin, you go to the Library Home Page Under My Account Tab. Enter your Surname, Student/staff number and the Pin. We advise that you use the numeral's, could be 4-16 numbers, that you could always remember. You will be required to Verify your Pin. The Pin links you to your student Record. The next screen to pop-up is your Library Record.

Answer: You are only allowed six books for a period of seven days, including weekend.

Answer: If you have already registered your account, but forgotten your username or password, go to library home page and click "reset pin"

Answer: The purpose of the library pin is to get an access to use library catalogue or electronic resources on campus and off-campus. Access your library account to renew books and place hold on item. It also allows PG students and staff to request material which the library does not hold from another instituition through Interlibrary Loan

Answer: Please note that the Library operates on a cashless system.You need to load money in your student or staff card in order to be able to pay for your fine. Fines are charged to all users, regardless of status for any items which are returned after the due date, and which have not been renewed. Answer: If books are not returned and if replacement charges and outstanding fines are not paid, then certain procedures may be instituted by the library. Please note that fines have been waved during the pandemic period.
Please speak to your Librarian in case you still holding books and want them to be renewed.
Libraries are now opened from 9am-4pm, Monday to Friday.

Answer: Yes, you are allowed to, but you need to bring a letter with a letter head from the department you are visiting. Answer:Only Masters and PHD students from any South African institutions are eligible to use Wits Libraries because of the reciprocal agreement between institutions. A standard letter signed by the Head of Library services at the home institution is required. The letter should state that the student or staff is in good standing in their home library and that it takes full responsibility for any material borrowed and losses incurred. For enquiries contact:

Answer: Inter Library Loans(ILL) is available to all current PG students and saff. ILLs are transactions between the libraries of institutions to facilitate access to information which extends beyond that held by individual library.

Answer:Have you graduated yet (only once graduation is confirmed may an ETD be published) The library uploads thesis and dissertations on WireDspace after a student has graduated. It is quite a lengthy process (with the Library as the end point), after graduation, the faculty offices sends thesis (unbound and digital copies) to Central Record Office, from CRO they are then sent to the library. Make sure that you’ve spoken to your School and Faculty offices before contacting the Library. Should your digital copy have any problems (file not opening etc.) the process will be severely delayed.

Go to the Library Home Page. Scroll down to E-Resources Tab .You will find Wits Exam Repository Search by Community and Collections, Author, Title, Subject etc. Not all Past exam papers are available online. You will need to consult with your Faculty should you not find the exam paper you are looking for.
