Research Data Management: FAIR And CARE Data Principles

Research Data Management is the process of providing the right labeling, storage, and access to data at all stages of a research project.

FAIR Data Principles

FAIR Data Principles ensure that research data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) These principles apply to both human and machine readability and they guide data management and stewardship to maximize data sharing and reuse in the scientific community.

CARE Data Principles

The CARE Principles for indigenous Data Governance complement the existing FAIR Principles, which require data to be findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.

These principles address concerns related to the people and purpose of data; i.e. Collective benefit, Authority to control, Responsibility, and Ethics, (CARE). The CARE Principles detail that the use of Indigenous data should result in tangible benefits for Indigenous collectives through inclusive development and innovation, improved governance and citizen engagement, and result in equitable outcomes
