inTechOpen This is listed on Beall's archived list of predatory publishers Dec 2016. It is not listed on Directory of Open Access Books, nor is it a member of Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), although I have been informed by Knowledge Unlatched, which has a partnership with inTechOpen on a project, that inTech will be registering formally with OASPA in due course (5.10.2018). Academy of Science of SA suggest one only publishes with inTechOpen once they are formally registered as members of OASPA.

Questionable Transcription Services

Aproskie Transcription Services From a concerned academic in 2015: I recently sent some transcripts out to a transcription firm called Aproskie Transcription Services. When I contacted them they said they had previously had dealings with WITS academics etc and appeared to be reputable. They requested payment before releasing the transcripts, however when I received the transcripts I saw that they were not only laughably inaccurate, but also very poorly transcribed linguistically and grammatically. They are wholly unusable for any sort of qualitative analysis and thus useless to my research. I have subsequently tried to contact them several times, but have received no reply. I was wondering if there was some way that this might be flagged up to staff thinking of using this service, so that other academics and postgraduate students do not sit with the same problem as me - having paid lots of money for transcription I still have to re-transcribe all the interviews myself
