This LibGuide has been prepared in order to simplify access to electronic books and databases, as well as print materials, that are important in the health care field. Please use the tabs at the top of the page, or the box headed "Table of Contents" below,  to navigate around the guide. 

Your feedback is essential in making this LibGuide useful. Please report missing web pages and broken links to the librarians so they can be fixed. Make suggestions for useful additions and useless deletions.

Keeping up to date on changes

Remember that the Guide will change regularly  as more and more resources are added, and outdated resources are removed. Be prepared for changes every time you open the LibGuide as improvements are made.

Whats Hot- #E-resources

Great new way to search for drug information by drug class. RxClass allows users to search and browse drug classes and their RxNorm drug members through a simple Web interface

You can convert PubMed search results to Excel spread sheets. Read this blog article, and download the software here. This will be very useful for systematic reviews, as you will be able to sort.

The Virtual Library @ WHSL

Using wifi outside WHSL

Electronic resources from WHSL are available remotely and by wifi on the Faculty lawns. Wifi is also available throughout WHSL, and laptop, tablet and mobile phone charging stations are available at every fixed carrell (workspace). 

Using Computers at Wits

Go to this site to open the  WITS ICT services' publications with full instructions on how to use computers at Wits. You can download, or read IT guides for students or staff, and find the Acceptable Use policy. 

Wireless and Mobile at Wits University

The Witwatersrand Health Sciences Library is fully covered for WiFi access, and there are power points at each work station, where you can charge your tablet or cell phone. There is also WiFi coverage in the medicinal garden outside.

For details on how to set up your access, please download one of the booklets produced by  WIts Information and Communications Technology ( WITS  ICT). There is a booklet for staff, and one for students, with links below.

Please note that the librarians are not qualified to set up, or trouble shoot WiFi access for you. If you cannot resolve a problem yourself
